About Us

profile

From our Founder, Harvard and Stanford alum

Welcome to Touchdown Tutors, where we offer highly-customized education in a one-on-one tutoring environment. Our students have personalized access to a select team of impressively credentialed and highly effective instructors that I have curated, all of whom have at least two degrees, up through the level of PhD, enabling our students from beginner-level to university-level as fast and as deep as they desire.

Parents (and students) come to us with a need, and share their student's situation and goal. With that, as a team we evaluate how best to achieve the goal, within the timeframe identified. We then move forward with our team's targeted plan for that student. Customized and checked homework is an important (yet elective) part of what we offer. Even though we do not require any commitment, our students stay with us, with younger siblings coming along as well. We give our very best to our students, motivated by the belief that every student deserves a gifted-student style education, which is individualized, interdisciplinary where possible, and targeted to achieve the present goal, while preparing the student for further advancement and higher goals.

So who are our typical students?

  • High schoolers who want to boost their PSAT scores to achieve National Merit scholarships; those who want to raise their SAT/ACT scores to reach top-tier college standards; and those who are aiming to achieve 5s on their AP exams.
  • Middle schoolers who need a much stronger math foundation (a specialty of ours) or are looking to develop all the tools necessary to write an organized and well-developed thesis essay with strengthened vocabulary (our instructors utilize a variety of methods, including English from Greek and Latin) along with advanced reading comprehension and grammar skills.
  • Determined young learners who would like to build strong and advanced foundations in a wide range of subject areas, including upper-level Math, Coding, and Creative Writing (also for publication).
  • Private school elementary students whose parents want to enable the best education by supplementing with our specialized one-on-one tutoring. One student, our 8-year-old, Giovanni, has been with us for 3 years. Seated in his boardroom-style chair, with an analog watch on his wrist, and pencil in his hand ready to take detailed notes (with correct spelling particularly important to him), Giovanni should be ready for college in another 3 years!
  • College-applicant students who come to us for essay editing, application guidance, and college counseling.
  • Homeschooled students of three varieties: (1) curious and gifted students who can and want to go deeper and to heights our instructors can take them, including to university-level; 2) students who have their classes taught in an "independent-study" way with our instructors as their years-long teachers; and (3) students who have gotten behind in a subject and who use our instructors to bring them up to level.
  • Advanced and profoundly gifted students who are interested in our unique and personalized instruction in a range of content areas from university-level Artificial Intelligence, Multivariable Calculus, and Real Analysis to 3D Modeling and Animation and Game Development.
  • Students entering college who need to pass a placement exam or are preparing for a rigorous college course.
  • Current busy college students who utilize our interdisciplinary instructors to ask questions about multiple classes during the same tutoring session.
  • Students with a variety of learning challenges* who need innovative plans that suit their unique circumstances. *Asperger's, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADD/ADHD, and Autism.
  • Post-college students who are studying for the LSAT, MCAT, GRE/GMAT and other graduate advancement tests.
  • Students who are interested in national competitions that we prepare them for which enhance their college applications.

  • Denise: M.Sc in Urban Planning — Adult Student

Denise came to us as an adult returning to college for a Master's degree in Urban Planning. The course that prevented Denise from earning this degree was a graduate course in Microeconomics and Finance — the course prerequisite was Statistics, which Denise had never taken, and she had been forced to drop this same course the previous semester. The college gave her only one more semester to successfully complete it. Our team mobilized to both help her achieve her dream and open the door for her so that with these skills a higher career compensation rate would be available to her. Our team reviewed the course and developed accelerated, personalized instruction to both teach the weekly material as well as strengthen Denise's skills in her gap areas of Algebra and Statistics, and within the 10-week semester of tutoring her with these materials, Denise not only succeeded — she achieved a high A in the course, and is confidently on her way to earning her M.Sc. in Urban Planning.
